The Ultimate Rural Challenge Steps Up a Gear
After six weeks of intense District Final competition, The National Bank Young Farmer Contest enters the next phase of challenges. Seven Regional Finals with eight contestants in each one, will be held throughout New Zealand from Feb to May. These finals will provide action and excitement aplenty as the contestants face a diverse array of practical, theoretical and technical farming challenges.
Oddly enough though, Young Farmers is not all about farming but rather it’s about life in the country. Young Farmers is run by young people, for young people. NZYF is a social network and personal development organisation for people aged 15 -31 years. There are nearly seventy clubs located nationwide who meet regularly to hold various competitions, events, and activities. Membership is open to people from any background.
Come and witness the eight Otago/Southland contestants have it out all day. Look for the large National Bank tent in the Show Grounds.

AgriKidsNZ encourages the passion and enthusiasm hundreds of our young New Zealanders have for the rural way of life. For the past five years, annually over 900 New Zealand intermediate aged children have taken part in the challenging and fun AgriKidsNZ competition as part of The National Bank Young Farmer Contest.
The seven Regional Finals are situated at various venues all around the country and local children are invited to come and compete in a variety of Agricultural tasks designed to challenge the knowledge and skills of our future farmers. The climax to these Regional Finals is the Grand Final which this year is being held in Gore from the 6th - 11th July, 2010.
All industry companies and organisations are now realizing the value of supporting our youth towards a career in the rural industry. DairyNZ, Meat&WoolNZ, Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre, Massey University, Lincoln University, Hyundai, Farmlands, CRT and Swanndri are all working alongside New Zealand Young Farmers and AgriKidsNZ management to ensure that the new initiatives within AgriKidsNZ are a huge success.
